I am a 31 year young woman who is open minded with a lot of potential. I am currently a Teacher's Assistant at a elementary school in my home town and is striving to become a certified teacher. My ultimate goal is to have my own business and work for myself. I would like to have my own magazine and my own child care business. I at this time am striving to get my tutoring business back up and running. In my spare time I write, read, go to cultural events, and go to the movies. I have been writing short stories and poetry since the age of 15. I have even written 2 scripts that can and will turn into plays/movies one day. I have even started a book in 2004; which I am planning on having it finished and published in the near future.

Authentic Jamaican Food in Athens - Profiling Athens Caribbean

Kelbourne Codling is a native of Montego Bay and one of three sons of Christopher and Amy Codling.  Codling is the owner of Kelly’s Authentic Jamaican Food which is now located in Athens, Georgia on Lumpkin Street.  He graduated from Harrison Memorial Seventh Day Adventist High School in Montego Bay and migrated to the United States in 1969 to further his education. He studied for and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration at Strayer Business College in Washington D.C.

Codling has been an Entrepreneur for over fifteen years.  In 1994, he opened the doors of a new restaurant in Stone Mountain, Georgia which he nick named after himself – “Kelly.” After seven years of conducting business in Stone Mountain he bought a store called Caribbean Foods from its owner on Milledge Avenue and moved his restaurant to Athens, Georgia.  From 2001 to 2002, Codling was managing two Kelly’s Authentic Jamaican Food restaurants simultaneously in Athens.  He still maintained the restaurant on Milledge Avenue and the second one was located on Baxter Street.  In 2002 he closed the restaurant on Baxter Street and kept the one on Milledge Avenue.  Codling moved his restaurant from Milledge Avenue to Lumpkin Street in 2008 in order to better facilitate his customers.

Codling makes God number one and the foundation in his life.  His encouragement to become an Entrepreneur grew as a result of his parents before him owning their own farm. It was also a lifelong dream of his because of the unfulfilling jobs that he held in the past while living in the United States of Barbados. He was “tired of being treated badly.”

Customers can either visit Kelly’s Authentic Jamaican Food for a delicious meal or have it catered.  A show was introduced at his restaurant called “Kick It At Kelly’s”.  Every Thursday people would frequent the restaurant to eat, play games, and recite poetry.  Codling would like to re-start the program “Kick It At Kelly’s” in the future.  Other plans that he has for the restaurant in the near future are to have live DJ’s, Jazz on Sundays, and expanding his franchise.  He would also like to be the owner of different stores in different states.
