Bedford Stuyvesant Unity Youth Resources, Inc, often referred to as BSUYRI, is a nonprofit organization named after its location, Bedford Stuyvesant, New York. Founded in 2004, BSUYRI has worked diligently to ensure that the teenagers and young adults of the underserved, at-risk, and ex-offender community are armed with tools and resources so that they too have a chance to succeed. Our organization offers computer training, mentoring, business/entrepreneur, and career/job development. BSUYRI works with groups and individuals throughout the public, business, and public official community to carry out our mission and vision. (>> read more)

Experience
I grew up in an afterschool program which has recently closed after 20 years and I wanted the youth in the community to experience an upbringing similar to what I have received.  In 2006 I decided to open an organization for youth and young adults that provide them with assistance in education, cultural experience, job training skills, and other social matters.  While carrying full time jobs my team and I began to host sessions on the weekends as well as take neighborhood children on cultural trips.

I have worked in health insurance for eleven years.  I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Health Administration.  The more I learn about the disparities in the urban communities and its harsh realities has really resonated with me and reminded me how important it is to devote myself full time in helping to set the foundation for our youth and community.   Preparing the youth and young adults in early job and career preparation in addition to life skills will play a part in bridging the gap between African Americans and other races and is a journey I will be a part of.

Shante Jones
Board Treasurer & VP – Business Development

Shanté Jones educated in the Brooklyn urban community.  Throughout that time she was privileged enough to take advantage of various programs similar to BSUYRI and decided that as an adult she should get involved and give back to the community.  The education, development, and job / business programs that BSUYRI offers are excellent opportunities for today’s and tomorrow’s youth.  As a fulltime employee and full-time student, she provided communications and business development to the organization.

With a diverse professional background, she has over 10+ years of experience in the private and government sectors. As an entrepreneur she was responsible for launching and operating a business that required me to oversee all areas of business, including finance, operations, and strategic planning.  She has also analyzed, managed, tracked, and evaluated budgets, procurement, and fiscal processes for a major public agency in New York City.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from College of New Rochelle and an Masters in Business from Metropolitan College of New York.
